Charles A. Krans, 71, of Aurora, Wis., died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born June 13, 1935, son of the late Roy and LaVaughn Krans. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1953, then served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1973, retiring as a Senior Chief Ocean Systems Technician. He was a sonarman and Sonar Technician Chief on both diesel and nuclear submarines during the Korean era, cold war, and Vietnam era. He received several commendations and medals during his career, including the FBM Submarine Patrol Pin with five gold stars.
After retirement, Charles returned to Aurora and to many of his favorite sports, especially hunting and fishing. He also engaged in several occupations, including logging, welding, building, raising Christmas trees, and raising cattle.
Charles is survived by his lifelong friend, Elinor Trosin; one son, Roger (Lois) Krans; three granddaughters, Amanda, Melody, Charleigh; sister, Rita (Jim) Jarvis; brother, Roger (Rita) Krans; sister, Charlotte (Charles) Walschmidt; sister-in-law, Marie Krans; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, LeRoy Krans.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, June 8, 2007, at 1:00 PM at the Homestead/Aurora Cemetery.
He was a man of many talents. Each friend will have a memory of his skills, ventures, and accomplishments.
