Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Carlson, 62, of 209 Cleveland Ave., Kingsford, Mich., passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, son of Robert and the late Marge (Binola) Carlson. Chuck grew up in Escanaba, Mich., and attended Escanaba schools. He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Chuck married the former Diane Mainville on January 14, 1989, in Fond du Lac, Wis. They resided in Fond du Lac until 1991, when they moved to Kingsford. Chuck was a truck driver for over 40 years, most recently working for Niagara Logistics, based out of Gladstone, Mich. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. His pride and joy was his daughter, Courtney. Chuck raced late model and modified cars in his younger years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Michigan State and Duke basketball, watching college football, and fishing. He loved going to camp to hunt and relax, and especially enjoyed visiting the Wisers and the Johnsons at their nearby camps. Chuck also loved sitting around a good camp fire with family and friends. Chuck loved to play practical jokes and pranks. If you remember any of them, I hope it brings a smile to your face instead of a tear. He is survived by his wife, Diane Carlson; and a daughter Courtney Carlson, at home; father, Robert E. Carlson, Escanaba; a sister, Linda Destrampe, Escanaba; a step-brother, Wayne Binola, Escanaba; mother-in-law, Mary Mainville, Kingsford; brother-in-law, Gary Mainville, Kingsford; two nephews, Matt Mainville, Iron Mountain, Steve (Janet) Mainville, Holland, Mich.; special friends, Gary and Lorraine Raether, Ed and Marie Gasperini, and Randy Rice. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Marge; and father-in-law, Garland Mainville. Private family services were held. Chuck's family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Stephen Cowen of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Dr. Schroeder and Dr. Mitchell and their wonderful staff, the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet, the Dickinson Home Health nurses for their exceptional care, and the gang at Northern Supply. Also, a special thank you for all the prayers, meals, cards, and support over the last few months from family and friends.
