Crystal Falls:
Celia M. Salmi, age 93, formerly of Crystal Falls, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2003, in Medina, Ohio.
She was born March 19, 1910, the third of four children of Finnish emigrants Victor and Amanda (Nyholm) Kaitila. She attended Crystal Falls schools and in 1928, was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Mrs. Salmi lived most of her life in Crystal Falls, marrying Lauri Morton there in 1933. She was a housewife until she was widowed in 1953. She was a legal secretary before her marriage and subsequently returned to that field. Mrs. Salmi worked for the Iron County prosecutor for many years and always walked to work, even in the winter. She was a member of United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls and maintained her membership there, even when she moved to Ohio in 1999. She married Neil Salmi in November 1967. She was well known in the Crystal Falls community and was active in the Crystal Manor Auxiliary, United Lutheran Church, Living Word Book Store and a host of volunteer tasks over the years. She also enjoyed visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved life and so enjoyed walking.
Mrs. Salmi is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Lawrence (Sophia) of Medina; Thomas (Shopko) Morton and Harold and Saaya of Strongsville; Anne (David) Silvaggio and Mark, Phillip and Lisa Beth of Euclid; Richard (Elizabeth) and Cara and Nicole of Cuyahoga Falls; Vivian (Albert) Foster of Dearborn, Michigan; and Daniel (Patricia) Clark of Livonia , MI; David (Alicia) Morton of Crystal Falls and Alan Morton of Wyoming and Sharon (David) Thompson of Philo, IL; and Kathryn (John) Marconi and Mathew and Vincent of Laguna Beach, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Neil, in 1976.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 13, 2004, from 1:30 – 2:00p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. A Memorial Service will be held following the visitation at the Church. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Her cremains will be placed next to her first husband Lauri, father Victor, and brother Toivo, in the beautiful hills of Crystal Falls that she loved so well at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
