Obituary

Cecil J. Cretton, Sr., 93, of Niagara, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara. He was born on December 24, 1917, in Norway, Mich., son of the late Julius and Bernice (Anderson) Cretton. Cecil grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. He served in the United States Navy, and upon being honorably discharged from the service, moved back to Niagara. He married Theressa Chapman on October 12, 1941. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1994. Cecil later married Phyllis Chapman on December 31, 1995, and she preceded him in death. Cecil worked for the Niagara Paper Mill as a paper tender for over forty-three years, retiring in 1982. He started working with Kimberly Clark and finished with Pentair. He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church, Norway. Cecil enjoyed many hobbies including, fishing, hunting, and playing cribbage. Cecil is survived by two sons, Charles (Annmarie) Cretton, Norway, Cecil (Marcie) Cretton, Jr., Niagara; one daughter, Victoria (Raphael) Nault, Niagara; two sisters, Genola Herman, Iron Mountain, Bonnie Eternicka, Rhinelander, Wis.; twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wives, Cecil was preceded in death by five brothers, Dumont, Robert, William, Clayton, and Joseph; four sisters, Mercy Flint, June Binion, Elaine LaRoche, and Maxine Cretton. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 27, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Niagara Cemetery, Niagara. Rev. James Danielson will officiate. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post No. 136 will accord military honors at graveside.
