Catherine M. Sparpana, 81, of Escanaba, Mich., formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2015, at her home. She was born June 30, 1933, in Waukesha, Wis., daughter of the late Fred and Margaret (Esser) Peter. Catherine graduated from Waukesha Public High School. She worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Waukesha and Waukesha Memorial Hospital in the medical records department. Catherine married Elmer "Jake" Sparpana on February 16, 1963, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2001. They moved from Waukesha to Iron Mountain in 1976. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Since 2009, Catherine resided in Escanaba at Willow Creek Apartments. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed Nascar Racing. She is survived by two sisters, Rita Hendrickson, Muskego, Wis. and Sr. Greta Peter, Manitowoc, Wis.; one step-daughter, Jean (Steve) Scherkenbach, Dousman, Wis. and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January, 12, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Fr. Paul Nomellini will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. Memorials can be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in her memory.
