Catherine T. Schenk, 89, Florence, Wis. and formerly of Crystal Falls, passed away, Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Golden Living Center, Florence. She was born March 30, 1919, in Negaunee, daughter of the late James A. and Florence (Perkins) Thomas. She married Wilbur Schenk and he preceded her in death. Catherine graduated from Northern Normal School and taught physical education in Baraga and Iron River. She was a loving mother and a devoted homemaker and family caregiver. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Ann (Albert) Shindorf, Charlevoix, Mary (Chris) Larsen, Crystal Falls, Susan (James) Schenk Drobny, Marquette; one son, William Schenk, Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Matthew Shindorf, Kristy (Matthew) McClellan, Heikki Larsen, Lars Larsen, Kerstin (Jeremy) Yablonski; and two great-grandchildren, Roxy McClellan and Taylor Yablonski. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, James A., William P. and John A. Thomas. The Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal falls, is serving the family. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Stephen E. Rhoades will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
