Catherine M. Martin, 84, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Manorcare Health Services, Kingsford, Mich. She was born on June 3, 1930, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Mary Sandona. Catherine grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School. She moved to Chicago, Ill. a couple years after graduation. Catherine married Charles Martin in 1955. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2006. They resided on the Northwest side of Chicago until 1980, at which time they retired to Iron Mountain. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her indoor plants and loved everything the outdoors had to offer. Catherine was the number one fan of Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome. She is survived by two sons, Perry (Denise) Martin, Yuba City, Calif. and Roy (Marybeth) Martin, Downers Grove, Ill.; two brothers, Pete (Dorothy) Sandona, Twin Lakes, Wis. and Albert "Muff" (Judy) Sandona, Marquette, Mich.; two sisters, Rita Been, Lower Michigan and Irene who resides in California; four loving grand-children, Ryan, Megan, Kelly and Perry, Jr. and very special friends Mary (Jim) Carlson and Sue (Gary) Gerber all of Iron Mountain. In addition to her parents and husband Charles, Catherine was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and John and three sisters, Elizabeth, Angeline and Rosemary. The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain to honor Catherine's Legacy of Life.
