Obituary

Carol J. Hintz, 86, of Iron Mountain, Mich., formerly of Norway, Mich., passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born February 6, 1922, in Hermansville, Mich., daughter of the late William and Marie (Ryberg) Anderson. Carol was raised in Hermansville and graduated from Hermansville High School. She married Paul Hintz on June 1, 1943, at the Methodist Church, Hermansville. Carol worked at Norway Needlecraft as a seamstress for three years and later worked at Norway Gravure as an inspector for over 18 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Norway, United Methodist Women (served as President),the Norway Hospital Auxillary, Swinging Singers, Church Choir,Graphic Arts International Union (GAIU), Norway Senior Center, Niagara Senior Center, Bible Ministry to Pinecrest, Freeman & Hyland Nursing Homes. Carol loved to travel and was the driver on miles of road trips throughout the US, visiting almost every state. International travel took her to France and Saudi Arabia to visit her daughters. She had a spirit of adventure as well, hiking and camping the length of Isle Royale National Park with family. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, sewing, reading and many handcrafts. She is survived by her husband, Paul, Iron Mountain; one son, Paul (Carol) Hintz, Jr., Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Cynthia (Peter) Balzola, Portland, Ore., Carolyn (Jean-Louis) Martinez, Kingsford; two sisters, Dorothy Duca, Hermansville, Genevieve Vincent, Rochester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Michelle (Rick) Krewson, Germany, Anthony Balzola, Portland. Carol was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Julie Hintz, 1979. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, Norway. The memorial service will be Wednesday, 11:00 AM at the church. Pastor James Britt will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery, Norway. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit or Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund.
