Bryan Scott Wirtanen, 37, Amasa, died Friday July 6, 2007, at his home.
He was born September 26, 1969, in Edenton, N.C., son of Lawrence and Sandra (Hudnall) Wirtanen. On April 12, 2003, he married Debra Hansen in Amasa.
He and his family moved to Whiteriver, Arizona in 1973 where he graduated from High School in 1987. Following graduation Bryan attended Northern Arizona University for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving aboard the U.S.S. Mackinaw on the Great Lakes and later as a hazardous material inspector in California. After his release from the Coast Guard , Bryan returned to Northern Arizona University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Upon graduation, Bryan joined the Hot Shots wild fire fighting team in Globe, Arizona. In 1996, Bryan decided to make his home in the Upper Penninsula at Amasa, the birthplace of his Dad, and settled in his Grandparents house until he met his wife Debbie. Bryan pursued his interest in the building trade and started his own construction company, Peterson Creek Construction, in partnership with Debbie's brother Jeff Hansen. He spent a considerable amount of time remodeling his and Debbie's home and was passionate about the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping and four-wheeling. Above all, family was extremely important to Bryan. He dearly loved spending time with nieces, nephews, and his grandchildren, showing patience and a devious sense of humor. Overall, he was kind-hearted, generous, and gifted, but words cannot begin to capture Bryan's spirit and love of life. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all he touched. He will truly be missed and loved forever.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Wirtanen, Amasa; parents, Lawrence and Sandra Wirtanen, Flagstaff, Ariz.; one brother, Mark (Kelly) Wirtanen, Flagstaff; and two sisters, Wendy (James) Dunham, Marion, Ky., and Dawn (Roy) Walter, Lake Charles, La., nieces, nephews, grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
