Obituary

Trout Creek, MI Bruce R. Warren, age 84, of Trout Creek, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich. He was born December 29, 1920, in Kalamazoo, Mich., son of the late Raymond and Ada Lucille Warren. Bruce attended Kalamazoo Public Schools. He graduated from Purdue University April 18, 1943. Upon graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Marine Corp. in the Pacific Island Campaign during World War II. He then returned home to Kalamazoo to work in his family's business. Bruce met his wife Ruth in Kalamazoo, and they were married February 12, 1949. Together they raised six children in the Upper Peninsula, Mariellen (Jim) Berglund, Joseph (Myra) Warren, Dorothy (John) Warren, Margaret (Bruce) Leach, Laura (Bryan) Areeda and Raymond (Holly) Warren. Their eight grandchildren, Joshua, Hope, Naomi, Anna Warren, Ashley and Allison Areeda, Katharine and Alice Leach; and two great-grand children Thomas and Marlee visited often along with the seven grand dogs. Bruce is also survived by his only sister Laura Jean Warren, his special aunt Verla Warren, his special cousin Patricia Mc Ginty, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Hill and Janice Killmer, brothers-in-law Ed (Mary) Cameron and Bruce (Katie) Cameron. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking, storytelling and keeping abreast of the interests and activities at work and school of his family. Besides his parents and in-laws, Bruce was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Kenneth Warren, his brothers-in-law Gus (Jean) Lord, Ed Hill and his special uncle Ralph Warren. His life work was teaching. For thirty-five years Bruce worked in Public Education. He taught secondary biology, government/economics, coached basketball, gym classes and had administrative responsibilities at Trout Creek in Ontonagon County from 1951 through 1967. He then moved his family to Gwinn in Marquette County where he assumed a Principalship at K. I. Sawyer Elementary School. He retired July, 1986. Because former students, parents and colleagues kept in touch, Bruce was able to remain a part of the lives of the people he respected and loved throughout his retirement years. Nobody was a stranger to him. He enjoyed listening to stories more than he enjoyed telling them. A devout Democrat, the well-being of his neighbor was as important to him as that of his family. The pristine beauty of the Upper Peninsula and sky watching brought much comfort and joy to Bruce in his daily round. He was an avid sports fan with basketball and football being his favorites. He followed the Purdue Boilermakers and the Packers closely. A Memorial Mass will be planned for next summer. Adequate time will be given for notification of family and friends prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Interior Township Economic Development Committee, or the Hazel Sliger Library Museum in Trout Creek, Mich. Friends may leave condolences and tributes to Bruce's family online at www.jacobsfuneralhomes.com The Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is serving the family.
