Obituary

Boris Stoyan "The Greek" Tchokreff, 83, of iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain. He was born June 8, 1930, in Wayne County, Mich., son of the late Stoyan and Athinka (Naomcheff) Tchokreff. Boris attended school in Detroit, Mich., and in the 8th grade attended the military academy where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Boris married Angeline Farchione on April 24, 1955, in Detroit Michigan. Boris worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company and later Ameritech as a splicer while residing in Detroit, retiring in 1988. Boris and his wife moved to the area in 1976. He was a member of St. Mary Orthodox Church, Iron Mountain, and a life member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post No. 50, Iron Mountain, American Legion Color Guard, life member U.S. Corp, VFW member and 40 and 8 Group. Boris was an amateur radio operator (ham), he enjoyed western movies, taking rides, traveling throughout the United States, spending time outdoors and participating in outdoor sports, hunting and especially spending time with his family, grandchildren and his many friends. He was a jack of all trades. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Angie; four sons, Robin (Kelly) Tchokreff, Iron Mountain, Dale Tchokreff, Iron Mountain, Dana (Karis) Tchokreff, Calif., Todd (Tia) Tchokreff, Korea; one daughter, Vina Lewis, Calif; one sister, Sonja Sneddon, Detroit; eight grandchildren, Nik-Stoyan, Sydnee (Bill), Dion, Victor, Carly, Mariah, Natalie and Sam. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Tchokreff; one sister, Nancy Briggs; and granddaughter Angelica Tchokreff. Visitation will be Thursday, September 19, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Father Mark Hagan will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post No. 50 of Iron Mountain will accord military honors at graveside.
