Betty Jean Rasmussen, 81, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Quinnesec and Kingsford, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, at her home.
Betty and her twin sister, Beverly, were born April 9, 1927, in Niagara, Wis., daughters of the late Carl and Edna (Spanton) Langager. She was raised in Niagara and later in Quinnesec. Betty, along with Beverly, attended Quinnesec High School and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945.
She married the late William Rasmussen, her high school sweetheart, on September 4, 1945, after Bill returned from serving in the United States Air Force in World War II. They were residents of Quinnesec and later Kingsford where they owned and operated Rasmussen Nursery.
Betty loved gardening, bird watching, and most of all golfing with her husband. They also enjoyed traveling the country every summer with their children. Betty and Bill retired to Apache Junction, Arizona, after Bill's retirement from Pentair Paper in 1987. They lived in Arizona for 20 years. Bill preceded her in death in November, 2004.
She is survived by one son, Scott "Pearl" Rasmussen (Pamela Miller), Niagara; one daughter, Kristen Blackwood (Joseph Graham), Marquette, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Mikaile, Megan, Kate, Erik, Jim, Aaron, Dianna; three sisters, Beverly (Hartley) Rector, Carol Rivest, Ardis Zoubi; best friend, Pamela Miller; many great grandchildren and many wonderful friends.
