Iron Mountain:
Betty Nelson, age 91, of Iron Mountain, Michigan, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Betty was born December 22, 1911, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, to the late Chris and Rachel (Curran) Boerger. She attended Notre Dame Academy in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and graduated in 1929. She married Edgar Nelson November 10, 1937, in Florence, Wisconsin. They moved to Iron Mountain, Michigan in 1937, where she resided since. She was a member of American Martyrs Church. She also belonged to the Daughters of Isabella, Iron Mountain-Kingsford Woman's Club, the Royal Neighbors of America, where she served as State Supervisor for many years, and a former member of Business and Professional Women.
She is survived by one daughter Cristine Nelson, one grandchild Trae Stavinoha, one great grandchild Emmily Stavinoha and several nieces and nephews
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Edgar, a twin brother Peter Boerger, and a sister Bernice O'Connor.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2003, from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Prayer services by the Daughters of Isabella will be recited Sunday at 6:30P.M. at the Funeral Home. Prayer services will be Monday, September 22, 2003, at 9:30A.M. at the Jacobs Funeral Home with the Mass of Christian Burial to be held Monday, at 10:00A.M. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford, Michigan. Father Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Florence, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Crystal Lake Park and Gardens, at 621 Detroit Avenue, Iron Mountain, Michigan 49801.
