Obituary

Bertha Marie King, 92, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Monday, October 19, 2009, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born March 20, 1917, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late John and Hilma (Norback) Leppiaho. Bertha grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, Ill. Bertha married Francis King in March 20, 1937, her 20th birthday. They resided in Chicago during their entire marriage. Francis preceded Bertha in death in May of 1992. Bertha moved to Victorian Heights Assisted Living in January of 2005, and later that year to the Iron County Medical Care Facility. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Bertha was also a passionate sports fan who had a special love for the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Robert) Strong; her son, Thomas (Marjorie) King; five grandchildren, Jacob Fillipp, Stacey (Matt) Polito, Ryan King, Justin King, Kristen King; two great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Maia Polito; two sisters, Ailie Halls, Helia Battistella; one brother, Eino Leppiaho; many nieces and nephews her who affectionately called her Aunt Bert. In addition to her husband, Francis King; Bertha was preceded in death by six brothers, Emil, Martin, Waino, Vilho, and Arvid Leppiaho, Toivo Aho; and three sisters, Lillian Calangan, Lila Blank, and Impi Lukkarila. Visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be Friday 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
