Bertha Brozak
CRYSTAL FALLS — Bertha A. Brozak, 88, of Crystal Falls died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
Bertha was born Aug. 16, 1914, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Peter and Victoria (Armatys) Franz, pioneer residents of the Buck Lake farming district. She was raised in the Buck Lake area and lived all of her life in Iron County. She first attended school in Buck Lake and later the Porter School in Alpha.
She married John L. Brozak on Oct. 17, 1932, in Crystal Falls, and together they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. Her husband, John preceded her in death on March 23, 1989.
Bertha was employed in food service at the Crystal Falls Community Hospital for many years, retiring in 1974.
She was active in the Woman's Auxiliary of the Tobin Mine, and the American Legion Auxiliary of the Louis Bowman Post 87.
Bertha was a very active member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls and the church guild. She was noted for her pineapple slices.
Bertha enjoyed many motor trips with her husband, as well as gardening and her flowers.
She is probably best known for the hundreds of cards and well wishes she sent her friends, family and acquaintances.
Bertha is survived by her children, Jacki (Bob) Tomlinson of Crystal Falls, Jeanette, Les, Cindy, Tammy and Conrad; Carrol ("JB") McCollough of Edgewater, Md., Jeanne and David; John (Pat) Brozak of Crystal Falls, John, James and Joseph; and Dennis (Kitty) Brozak of Marquette, Brian and Jennifer. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving child of the Peter and Victoria Franz family, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Wiencek, Sophie Tabaka and Josephine Donno, and four brothers, John, Stanley, Walter and Chester Franz.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Louis Bowman Post 87 will have a memorial service at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Rev. Fr. Norman Clisch, will celebrate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
Pallbearers will be Bertha's grandsons and great-grandsons.
Memorials may be given to the Iron County Medical Care Facility's Diversional Therapy Fund.
