Bernice J. Kusmitch, 93, of Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, peacefully at her home.
She was born December 15, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Jankowski) Ruszkiewicz. Bernice grew up in Milwaukee and attended school there. She married Anthony Kusmitch on May 21, 1949, at St. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church, Milwaukee, he preceded her in death on May 24, 2010. They resided in Milwaukee where she spent her time raising her family and later worked evenings at St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee as a nursing assistant. They moved to Crystal Falls in the late seventies. Bernice was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, she served on the Ladies Guild, was a Eucharistic Minister and helped on a committee to upkeep the church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crafts but most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren
Bernice is survived by four daughters, Kathy Kusmitch, Crystal Falls, Rosemary (Larry) Mathis, Calif., Veronica (Ken) Kusado, Calif. and Mary (Al) Ortiz, Calif.; one son, Richard (Joni) Kusmitch, Calif.; five grandchildren, Dani, Anthony (Colleen), Allison (Rich), Brian and Ashley (Mark); three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Alice and Madison; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Ruszkiewicz and two sisters, Irene Hatcher and Esther Wyrich.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Prayers will be recited, Friday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls in the spring.
