Obituary

Bernard M. Hoffman, 90, of Crystal Falls, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. He was born April 1, 1917, in Racine, Wis., son of the late Morris and Giselle (Lichtman) Hoffman. He married Inez Nacoli. She survives. Bernard was a retired purchasing agent for the U.S. government. Following retirement he became the librarian in Crystal Falls. Active in this community he wrote several books on early Crystal Falls history and was instrumental in the development of the Harbor House Museum and was named Historian of the Year, 1995. A veteran of World War II in the United States Army Air Force he was a member of the VFW Post No. 2891, Crystal Falls. Survivors include his wife, Inez Hoffman, Crystal Falls, two sons, Richard (Patricia) Hoffman, Joseph Hoffman, Iron River; one daughter, Sheila (Gary) Smith, Shorewood, Ill.; four grandchildren, Devone, Katlyn, Alexander and Serge Smith. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Rabbi Sidney Vineburg will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, with military rites accorded by the East Side Veterans Council. A fellowship gathering will follow the committal service at the VFW Post in Crystal Falls. Friends may leave condolences online at www.jacobsfuneralhomes.com.
