Obituary

Barbara A. Schinderle-Brown, 72, of Norway, formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born November 30, 1936, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Gerald and Catherine (Opolka) Arnold. Barbara grew up in Vulcan and graduated from Vulcan High School in 1954. She married Frank Schinderle in 1954; they celebrated their 40th anniversary in 1994. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1996. Barb and Frank were musicians (Local 249) for many years. They retired their band in 1972, entertaining only at family gatherings after that. She worked at the Chippewa Club in Iron Mountain for 23 years, retiring in 1984. That same summer, Barb joined the team at Stephens Real Estate after receiving her degree from Holloway School of Real Estate. She served as Vice President and later President of the local MLS. While working in real estate, she met her second husband, Robert (Bob) Brown. They were married in 2001. Barb and Bob traveled frequently and spent their winters in Bonita Beach, Florida. They were both members of Pine Grove Country Club and the Chippewa Club for a short period of time. Bob preceded her in death in October, 2005. Barb was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Norway Senior Center, and St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved music, cooking, entertaining, and gardening, and has a large collection of sea shells that she and Bob found while walking the beach in Florida. She is survived by one son, Frank (Becky) Schinderle, Iron Mountain; three daughters, Monica (Don) Maule, Iron Mountain, Karen (Dr. Toby) Gendron, Breitung Twsp., Brenda (Daniel) Branam, Escanaba, Mich.; grandchildren, Brad, Hilary, Matt, and Mason Schinderle, Samantha (Joshua) Edwards, Michael (Kelly) Maule, Melissa Maule, Jeremy, Joseph, and Adam Gendron, Jesse (Julie) Gendron, Kristen Gendron, Shane and Brian Branam, Jill (Eric) LeDuc; three great-grandchildren, Owen Edwards, Makayla Gendron, Kylie Branam; two sisters, Rosalie Neuens, Norway, Beverly (Frank) Lake, Niagara; one brother, Gerald (Dana) Arnold, Foster City, Mich.; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Ken) Venos, Norway; brother-in-law, Les (Carolyn) Brown, Norway; one step-daughter, Cindy (Lee VanVoorhis) Brown; two step-sons, Thomas Brown, William (Lily) Brown; three step-grandchildren, Colton and Alexa VanVoorhis, Michelle Bargo; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; many dear friends including, Eileen Zeugner, Maddy Tousignant, and Dorlene Uhazi. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Lee; her step-father, Vertin LaCosse; brother-in-law, Arthur Neuens; nephew, Art Neuens, Jr.; and niece, Suzanne Neuens. Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The Daughters of Isabella will offer the rosary Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will be offered Friday, December 19, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Moll will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
