August F. Blome, 82, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 10, 1926, in Florence, Wis., son of the late August and Ellen (Helgren) Blome. He married the former Shirley Joyce Nau on September 10, 1948, at Maple Grove Ranch, Florence. August served in the United States Navy during WWII, mainly in the Philippines.
After returning from the service, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he received his undergraduate degree. He then went on to Michigan State University where he received his Master Degree in Agriculture. August worked for cooperative county extension agencies in many areas of the Midwest, working last in Cheboygan Michigan, retiring in 1986.
August and Shirley, moved to Crystal Falls after his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, electrical work, wood working, cutting wood, gardening and spending time in the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Frank Blome, Crystal Falls; three daughters, Barbara (Mike Delbridge) Anderson, Crystal Falls, Kitty (Dennis) Brozak, Marquette, Mich., Dianne (Roger) Griswold, Iron Mountain; one sister, Helen Tarjan, California; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Melissa Marcell) Anderson, Brian Brozak, Jennifer (Steve) Latowski, Janese Blome, Tamara Blome, Tarra Griswold, Tiffany Griswold; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
August was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Ed Blome; five sisters, Dorothy Bruehl, BettyAnn Taylor, Eloise Parker, Clara Lou Ryan and Marie Blome.

Private family visitation and funeral services will be held at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Homes, Florence. VFW Post No. 3635 of Florence will accord military honors. Rev. Douglas Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Florence, in the spring.
