Obituary

Dr. Arthur C. Costa, 737 East B Street, Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2008, at Dickinson Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. He was born November 5, 1926, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Arthur L. and Frances (Possi) Costa. Dr. Costa is survived by, his loving wife Kathleen (Butler), whom he married on June 30, 1951; two daughters, Kathleen J. (Robert) Colassacco, Ironwood, Mich., Patricia L. (Mitch) Meyer, Green Bay, Wis., one son, Arthur W. (Debbie Baker) Costa, Kingsford, Mich; two grandsons, that he loved very much, Anthony Arthur Meyer and Patrick Michael Meyer, both of Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce (Costa) Longe. He was a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., received a Bachelor's Degree in 1949, and graduated from dental school in 1953. Following graduation, he worked in the dental office with his dad, before entering the army as a dentist during the Korean War. He attained the rank of captain, and following his discharge, returned to resume practice with his father. He was active in many pursuits including hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He especially loved his hunting camp at Faithorn, Mich.,where he gathered with family and special friends throughout the years. Dr. Costa was a member of many organizations. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and past president of the Cloverland District Dental Society. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, North American Hunting Club, and American Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Elks Club, a past member of the Pine Grove Country Club, and the Chippewa Club. For many years he was a member of the Northland Beagle Club and he won many trophies and ribbons on his hounds competing in field trials. He was the current president of the Iron Mountain Housing Authority of which he had been a member for the past 17 years. He was also a charter member of the UP Antique Car Club and its president for two years. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain and again Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of mass at church. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Father Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, there will be a luncheon at the church following the interment. Friends may leave condolences to Dr. Costa's family online at www.jacobsfuneralhomes.com The Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, is serving the family. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain and again Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of mass at church. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Father Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, there will be a luncheon at the church following the interment.
