Armond Menghini
IRON MOUNTAIN — Armond (Mandy) Menghini, 90, of 601 Chapin St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Mr. Menghini was born June 29, 1912, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Nicola and Aurelia (Tomassoni) Menghini.
On June 16, 1945, he married the former Anna Vershaw in Kewanee, Ill. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2000.
Mr. Menghini was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II as a flight instructor.
In 1948 Armond along with his wife, Anna, took over Bloom Wholesale Company after the sudden passing of Orbin Bloom. They operated Bloom Wholesale until the time of his retirement in 1974.
He was a past member of the Iron Mountain Lions Club, BPOE Lodge 700, Holy Name Society, Iron Mountain City Council, Dickinson County Board of Commissioners and was on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Tobacco, Candy and Vendors Association. Armond was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mr. Menghini is survived by two sons, Bernard (Luverna) of Iron Mountain and Charles (Wanda) of Chicago. He is further survived by six grandchildren, Paul (Melissa) Menghini and Ann (Patrick) Brown of Iron Mountain, Luverna Menghini of Portland, Ore., Therese (Mario) Chavez of Denver, Colo., Bernadette Menghini of Steubenville, Ohio, and Michael Menghini of Valparaiso, Ind., and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Lily Menghini and Kathryn and Elizabeth, all of Iron Mountain.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna; three brothers, Aquilino, Aero and Joseph, and two sisters, Cassamina Kuula and Annunciata Lee.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name.
