Arlouine Marie Miller Fende, age 79, of Iron Mountain, went home to Christ, Saturday, June 17, 2006. She didn't suffer she had a stroke and ascended peacefully.
She was born March 10, 1927, in Oshkosh, Wis., daughter of John T. and Louise "Grace" (Nolte) Miller. She grew up on a dairy farm, this is how she got her amazing work ethic. She graduated from Winneconne High School, and always knew she wanted to be a nurse.
Arlo trained at Bellin School of Nursing in Green Bay, where she received her RN Degree. She did her internship at Chicago's Cook County Hospital and often had stories to tell that let us know how good we have it here.
She married Lawrence Fende and raised her family in Kingsford. She was employed at DCH for over 20 years and then went to work at St Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wis., for ten years. Arlouine retired, moved to Sagola in 1991, and lived with her daughter Lona helping raise her two youngest grandsons. In 1998 she moved to Washington Court in Iron Mountain. Arlo enjoyed serving others. She was active in several churches. Her hobbies were baking, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and travel. She volunteered for over seven years at the Salvation Army.
Arlo's wishes were no flowers. Her favorite charities are Heifer International, P.O. Box 8058 Little Rock, AR 72203 800-422-0474, The Salvation Army, and The First United Methodist Church, 106 4th St. Iron Mt.
Survivors include one son, Mark Fende, Channing; two daughters, Tania Fende Flancher, Atlanta, Georgia, Lona (Pat Clark) Fende, Sagola; six grandchildren Tawa, Thor, Jeremy, Michael, John, Brady; nine great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law, Bob Flancher, John Mashak; one daughter-in-law, Julie St. John; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Joan Miller Aronson.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2006, 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial Services will be at Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. In addition, Memorial Services will also be held Sunday, July 2, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain (North Side). Pastor David Schneider will officiate.
