Arlene C. Arkema, 94, of 501 Fairway Rd., Crystal Falls, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born January 10, 1920, in Lowell, Mich., daughter of the late Michael and Florence (Darby) Myckowiak. Arlene was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids Mich., until moving to Crystal Falls in 2005. She attended Eastern Ave Elementary School and Central High School in Grand Rapids. Arlene married Louis Arkema on July 20, 1940, in Grand Rapids. She was a homemaker for fourteen years before going to work with her husband at the Wolverine Brass Federal Credit Union. Arlene was a very active member of Epworth Methodist Church as a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed camping all around the United States and frequent visits to Disney World; she spent most of her life helping and serving others.
Arlene is survived by two daughters, Marcia Klein, Poinciana, Fla. and Donna Nelson, Crystal Falls; one grandchild, Lee Ann Spangenberg and two great-grandchildren, Vanessa, age 6 and Aaron, age 5.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louis, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Myckowiak, Jr. and Lavern Myckowiak; three sisters, Lucille Woodrick, Evelyn Groendyke and Gladys Ebels.
Burial will be in Vergennes Cemetery, Lowell, Mich.
