Arla M. Griggs, age 77, of Florence, Wis., passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 23, 1928, in Florence, Wis., the daughter of the late Adolph and Helen (Small) Swanson. She married William Griggs on April 2, 1949, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2000.
Arla and her husband William resided in Kingsford and Sault Saint Marie for a short time, before moving to Keyes Lake in Florence. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Florence. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid Packer fan.
Survivors include two sons Charles (Sharon) Griggs of Kingsford, and Tom (Dawn) Griggs of Iron Mountain, one sister Lois (Raymond) Novak of Florence, and five grandchildren Tracy, Joshua, Amanda, Abby, and Jacob. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she was close to and her close friends at Keyes Lake and Kingswood apartments.
Besides her parents and husband William, she was preceded in death by two brothers Edward Swanson and Clifford Swanson.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 19, 2005, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m.
at the Church. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
