Anton J. Marusich, age 88, of Crystal Falls, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Marquette.
He was born January 23, 1918, in Painesdale, son of the late Matthew and Frances (Majnaric) Marusich. He married Ann Marie Gorsche on January 14, 1950, in Manistique.
Anton graduated from Wakefield High School, Class of 1936. He attended college at Michigan Technological University, graduating with honors in 1940, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He taught at MTU prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1941. He served during World War II in the European Theatre, and was honorably discharged on April 17, 1946, at the rank of Major. He joined the Michigan Department of Transportation, retiring in 1983, as a District Engineer for the Western District.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Marusich, Crystal Falls; two daughters, Ann Louise (James C.) Megas, St. Paul, Minn., Mary Elizabeth Marusich, Marquette; four sons, Anton J. Marusich, Crystal Falls, Michael (Carol) Marusich, Eugene, Ore., Paul Marusich, Stephan Marusich, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher Marusich, Andrew, Joan Megas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Matt; and four sisters, infant Ann, Fran, Mary, and Katherine.
Visitation will be Friday, August 4, 2006, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Celebration of Life Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Fr. Robb Jurkovich will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls with military honors accorded by the East Side Veterans Council.
