Anthony Kusmitch, 89, of Crystal Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at his home.
He was born August 30, 1920, in Crystal Falls, eldest son of the late Steve and Veronica (Selak) Kusmitch. Anthony met Bernice Ruszkiewicz, the love of his life, in Milwaukee, Wis. They were married on May 21, 1949, in Milwaukee, and soon started their family; four daughters and one son.
In the summer of 1965, Tony took his family to California and settled in Riverside where he went to work for Rohr Aerospace. After retiring in 1981, Tony longed to return to Crystal Falls to pursue his many hobbies.
He was an avid gardener, skilled carpenter, and wonderful storyteller, who had the ability to engage his listeners with local history and personal family memories. Tony was an active member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, where he generously volunteered his time. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Bernice Kusmitch, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years; five children, Kathy Kusmitch, Crystal Falls, who was there to provide care for him until his death, Rosemary (Larry) Matthess, Redlands, Calif., Veronica (Ken) Kusudo, Riverside, Calif., Mary (Alfred) Ortiz, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Richard (Joni) Kusmitch, Fontana, Calif.; five grandchildren, Danielle, Anthony (Colleen), Allison (Rich), Brian, Ashley; one great-granddaughter, Isabella; two brothers, John Kusmitch, Kingsford, Mich., Chester (Kathleen) Kusmitch, Crystal Falls; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Kusmitch; three sisters, Agnes Fabbri, Mary Spence, and Julie Hicks.
His joyful presence, warm smile, and memorable stories will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Rosary will be recited 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Prayers will be offered 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
