Obituary

Dr. Anne C. Miller, 95, Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Golden Living Center (Florence Villa), Florence, Wis., where she had resided for the last ten years. She was born October 31, 1912, in Mapleton, North Dakota, daughter of the late Charles E. and Anne J. B. (McCormick) Palmatier, and grew up in Marshalls Corner, New Jersey. She graduated from high school there in 1932, and from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Kansas City, Missouri in 1940. She moved to Crystal Falls in 1942, and established a medical practice that was originally located above Hammerberg Drug Store. In her early years of practice, she provided free physicals and shots for children at an annual clinic, serving as many as 70 children on VJ Day, August 14, 1945. She served on the School Board of Crystal Falls High School, and was President of the School Board for two years. She married Leslie W. Miller, Principal of the Elementary School in Crystal Falls, on August 19, 1951. She practiced medicine full time until her retirement, and continued to practice part time, making her last house call in 1997 at the age of 85. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River, where she served as both an Elder, Deacon, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 250. She enjoyed walking, gardening, and reading the Bible. She is survived by her sons Leslie Miller (Annirene), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mark Miller (Ann Marie), Marquette, Michigan; five grandchildren, Leslie, Lauren, Thomas, Wayne, and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison, and one great-grandchild-to-be. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie in 1990, as well as by her parents, three sisters, Lucy, Minnie, and Jennie, and two brothers, Mark and Charles. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Rev. Douglas J. Johnson will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth, Wis.
