Annabelle "Ann" Moraska, 77, of Norway, Mich. passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.
She was born November 4, 1931, in Iron Mountain daughter of the late Fiore "Scrow" and Dorothy (Bates) Dinnocenzo. She grew up on the northside of Iron Mountain and attended Iron Mountain schools. She graduated in 1950. Following graduation, Annabelle attended Mother Cabrini School of Nursing in Chicago for two years. She returned home to care for her brother, Ralph, and her sister, Norma Jean, following her mother's death.
Ann married Joseph G. Moraska at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain on January 24, 1953. They resided in Norway all their married life. Ann worked as an accountant for Lodal, Inc. after their children were all in school.
She loved to sing. As a young mother, Ann sang with her girlfriends, Mary Jean Menard, JoAnne Bray Rhode, Mary Ann Mattson, and JoAnne Hebert as "The Singing Den Mothers" while their boys were in Cub Scouts.
Ann was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norway, and sang in the church choir for many years. She spent many Saturdays singing for weddings and sang for the last time in public at her daughter, Mary's wedding. Ann also enjoyed bowling and did so for many years.
Ann and Joe enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona. During the spring and summer months, "Grandma Ann" helped her son, Mike, run the Blind Duck Inn for 11 years. When Ann wasn't working or spending time in Arizona, she loved spending time and visiting with her children, grandchildren, reading, and watching the Packers.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; son, Michael (Ann) Moraska, Kingsford; daughter, Mary (Michael) Pontbriand, Norway; grandchildren, Tony (Megan) Moraska, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Michelle (Jake Carpenter) Moraska, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Missy Pontbriand, Norway, Dan (Ashley Maule) Pontbriand, Vulcan, Joey (Kelsey Fila) Pontbriand, Norway; three sisters, Norma Jean (Harold) Helms, Des Moines, Iowa, Chrissy (Frank) Aiello, Las Vegas, Nev., Marcia (Ron) Waldballig, Spring, Tex.; step-mother, Laura Salina, Pt. Richmond, Calif.; special sisters-in-law, Jean Bednarz, Spread Eagle, Wis., Pearl Moraska, Rockford, Ill.; special cousin, Cathy (Rich) Given, Naperville, Ill; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ann was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Moraska; a brother, Ralph Dinnocenzo; and two brothers-in-law, Russ Bednarz, Walter Moraska, Jr.
