Iron Mountain Anna Szperling age 88, of Lower Michigan passed away Tuesday July 26, 2005 at Oak Crest Assisted Living in Norway. Anna was born on September 27, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan daughter of the late Leo and Stella (Klotz) Szymanski Sr. Anna grew up and attended school in Detroit, Michigan. She married Frank Szperling on June 27, 1942 in Detroit. After being married they resided there. Frank preceded her in death on April 26, 1979. Anna moved to Norway in 2003 to be with her daughter. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norway. While in Detroit Anna was active in her church and a devoted Catholic. She enjoyed dining out with her family and friends. Anna is survived by one daughter Genevieve Thoresen of Vulcan, MI., Her granddaughter, Mindy (Mark) Sertich of Vulcan, MI., one grandson, Scott (Darlene) Thoresen of Two Rivers, WI., Four great grandchildren, Garrett Thoresen, Samantha, Danielle and Michael Thoresen. Two sisters, Eleanor Sperling of Detroit, Mi., and Gertrude Wielgat of Ferndale, MI. Many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Frank Anna is preceded by three brothers, Leo, Frank, and Enick Szymanski and one sister, Helen Levenski. Visitation will be Wednesday July 27, from 6-7pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Thursday 9:30am at the Jacobs Funeral Home, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norway. Fr. Mark McQuesten will officiate. Visitation will also be held Sunday July 31, from 1-3pm at the Hopcroft Funeral Home in Madison Heights, Michigan, and Monday from 9:30am until the time of the Mass at 10am at St. Germaine Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Entombment will be Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.
