Anna M. Podnar, 80, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 16, 2013, at her home in Spread Eagle.
She was born on October 24, 1932, daughter of the late Percy and Zelphia (Bailey) Taff. She grew up in Florence and attended school there. Anna married Mathew Podnar on December 10, 1955, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence.
Anna came from an extremely large family, the youngest of 12. She was always full of life and energy. Her eyes lit up at the sight of any and all of her grandchildren. She enjoyed rummaging, baking, was a serious Green Bay Packers fan, she taught her kids how to fish, she loved cooking for her family and could always be called to get a great recipe. Anna willingly shared her great wisdom with family and had the gift of selfless giving. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a dedicated volunteer and loyal shopper at Saint Vinney's and always on the lookout for a bargain for her family.
Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Mathew; one son, Dennis (Karen) Podnar, Spread Eagle; five daughters, Debra (Harold) Bell, Jackie (Edward) Sleeter, Tammy (Patrick) Van Pembrook, Joie (Mark) Broullire, all of Aurora, Cheryl Podnar, at home; one brother, Bill (Joanne) Taff, Florence; 14 grandchildren, Jessica (Bob), Danielle (Jason), Christopher (Hannah), Travis, Kurtis (Stephanie), Terry, Eddie, Joey, Jim, Madison, Aiden, Michael, Bailey and Emma; two great-granddaughters, Daniella and Aubree; a special nephew, Arnie Warshawsky as well as many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Willard, Roy and Jack Taff; five sisters, Evelyn Padgett, Beatrice Warshawsky, Eva Inglese, Effie McCraw and Hazel Huff.
Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Fr. Michael Woempner will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth.
