Obituary

Ann M. Marusich, 92, Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in Marquette, Mich. She was born on May 9, 1918, in Manistique, Mich., daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Rozic) Gorsche. She graduated from Manistique High School at age 16 in 1934. After graduation, Ann worked at the Manistique State Savings Bank. While presiding over the Manistique Blueberry Festival in 1939 as its first Queen, she met the man who would become her husband, Anton J. Marusich. After Anton returned from World War II, they were married in Manistique on January 14, 1950, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2000. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2006. They lived in Manistique, Ann Arbor, and Saginaw, Mich., before settling in Crystal Falls, when Anton accepted the position of District Engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation. This is where they raised their six children. Ann participated in many community activities including, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Altar Guild, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. In addition she was known for her baking and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the United States and abroad including Europe and Argentina. Her final years were spent in Marquette, Mich., where she lived with her daughter Mary Marusich, and her son Anton J. Marusich, Jr., both of whom provided her with the finest loving care possible. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Louise (James) Megas, St. Paul Minn., Mary Elizabeth Marusich, Marquette; four sons, Anton Marusich, Crystal Falls, Michael (Carol) Marusich, Eugene, Ore., Paul (Korby) Marusich, Bloomington, Minn., Stephan Marusich, Mounds View, Minn . She also leaves four grandchildren, Amanda Marusich, Christopher Marusich, Andrew Megas, Joan Megas; one sister, Mary Nelli; one brother Peter (Arvella) Gorsche; many nieces, nephews, and cousins . Ann was preceded in death by, one sister, Kathryn Pastore, and two brothers, Francis and John Gorsche. Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Jacobs-Plowe FuneralHome, Crystal Falls. A prayer service will be 12:00 noon at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 3, 2010, 12:30 p.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Robb Jurkovich will officiate.
