Obituary

Dr. Angela Anne Seiter, beloved mother and wife, joined her Savior in Heaven on Saturday evening October 24, 2009, after a nine year battle with cancer. Angela fought the good fight, never wavering from her faith in eternal salvation, trusting in Psalm 46 to "Be Still and Know that I am God." Angela's life was one best exemplified by a helping hand, a compassionate heart, and a kind word. In her practice as a clinical psychologist, Angela shared these personal qualities with her patients to assist them through life's often difficult journey. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was born September 25, 1953, in Clare, Mich., daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Reid) Seiter, the seventh of seven children. Angela spent her formative years on the family farm and graduated from Clare Area Schools, Class of 1971, with honors. She attended the University of Michigan where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, graduating with honors, Class of 1975. After graduation, Angela taught Psychology for two years at Our Lady of Mercy High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. In 1978, Angela returned to the classroom to begin work on her Doctorate Degree in Psychology at the University of Detroit. Angela completed her Doctorate program in 1982, and successfully presented her doctoral thesis earning her PhD as a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Seiter worked at Heritage Hospital in Taylor, Michigan and in private practice for several years before marrying her husband, Geoffrey Lawrence in 1988, in Farmington, Michigan; the two met in Ann Arbor during their college days. Angela was blessed with her first child, Alivia Seiter Lawrence in May of 1989. Angela and Geoffrey, along with Alivia, moved to Crystal Falls in June 1991. In March of 1993, the couple was blessed with their second child, Carolyn Seiter Lawrence. Angela's daughter Alivia is now a Junior at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, following in her mother's footsteps by majoring in Psychology; her daughter Carolyn is a Junior at Forest Park High School and also plans on attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. For the past five years, Dr. Seiter devoted a great deal of her time as a member of the Forest Park School Board, where she focused her efforts on policy and curriculum; she always felt education was the key to success and worked to insure the best for the students in the school district. In addition to her school board duties, Dr. Seiter was a member of United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls and a member of the hand bell choir since 1991. Angela enjoyed playing piano, reading a good book, a spirited debate, and the many family trips throughout the USA. Dr. Seiter was a dedicated clinical psychologist who continued in her private practice until 2008, when her illness forced her to suspend her practice. In addition to her two daughters and husband, Geoffrey Lawrence, Angela is survived by two sisters; Meg (Don) MacDougall, Pittsburgh, Pa., Marilyn Ulrich, Grand Haven, Mich.; two brothers; Larry Seiter, Clare, Jay (Gayla) Seiter, Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bonnie Humphrey; and a brother, Blair Seiter.
