Anastasia Babladelis, 78, of Iron Mountain, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born December 10, 1929, in Alton, Illinois, daughter of the late John and Helen Sarandis. She married Nicholas Babladelis on September 26, 1948 in Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2007. They lived in Milwaukee, Wis., Alton, Illinois, and Manistique, Mich., before moving to Iron Mountain in 1968. Ann was an active member of St. Mary Orthodox Church. She was a member of the board of directors of Northpointe Healthcare Systems. Her passion throughout her lifetime was to improve public policy in the fields of mental health and the mentally impaired. Ann was an advocate for the rights of all developmentally disabled citizens. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Ann will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by four children, Paul (Tricia) Babladelis, Costa Rica, Marcus (Kathleen) Babladelis, Naperville, Ill., Jon Babladelis, Iron Mountain, Alexis (Michael) Babladelis, Ann Arbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Robert Babladelis, Nicholette Babladelis, Nicholas Babladelis, Gregory Nelson, Alexander Babladelis, John Smieska, Levi Merritt Babladelis, Angel Merritt Babladelis; one great-grandson, Ethan Babladelis; one great-granddaughter, Tabitha Merritt; one brother, Christ (Peggy) Sarandis, Fort Worth, TX; nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Jianakoplos.
