Obituary

Amelio Palluconi IRON MOUNTAIN — Amelio Palluconi, 87, formerly of 725 East Grant St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. Amelio was born Jan. 2, 1915, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Louis and Caroline (Ercoli) Palluconi. He grew up in Iron Mountain and was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He received a bachelor's degree in education from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis. and a master's degree from the University of Michigan. Amelio served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940-1946. He married Jeanette (Vielgut) on Aug. 8, 1942, in Georgia. While serving in the Army, Amelio was a prisoner of war. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, he and his wife moved back to Iron Mountain. Amelio taught at Kingsford High School from 1946 until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Amelio is survived by three sons, Michael (Karen) Palluconi of Green Bay, Wis., Tom (Cathy) Palluconi of Dallas, Texas and David (Lianne) Palluconi of Fairfield, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia (Bob) Gustafson of Cudahy, Wis.; six grandchildren, Sarah and Korinne Palluconi, Amanda Palluconi, Stephen and Gina Palluconi and Jim Gustafson; one great-grandson, Logan Gustafson; a nephew, Ron Palluconi; and two nieces, Josie (Bill) Calcari of Iron Mountain and Mary Ann Kohuth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette on June 12, 1997; four brothers; and one grandson, Danny Palluconi. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home and at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. The American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post 50 of Iron Mountain will conduct full military honors at the graveside. Memorials can be made to the Disabled American Veterans and the Alzheimer Society in his memory. The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
