Alice M. Marth, 89, of Niagara, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Dickinson Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.
She was born May 15, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late Willhem and Emma (Kuhfeldt) Volkmann. Alice grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee Girls Tech. High School. She married Harold Peterson in Bailey's Harbor, Wis., in 1938. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1967.
Alice married James Marth in 1980. He preceded her in death in 1988. She resided in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., until July, 2009, when she moved to Niagara to be closer to her family. Alice was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion, both in Sturgeon Bay. She was also a member of the Sturgeon Bay Woman's Association where she was selected "Woman of the Year."
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (John) Keeley, Beecher, Wis., Judith (Richard) Glesner, Madison, Wis., Geraldine "Toby" (Robert) Groleski, Dunbar, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Jay (Diane) Keeley, Steven (Rickee) Keeley, Todd (Angi) Keeley, Tim (Nancy) Heideman, Kelly Gehling, Julie Glesner, Richard (Kelly) Glesner; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Kyla Keeley; two sisters, Gertrude Wanish, Elsie Pauley; and three brothers, John, Bill, and Alvin Volkmann.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pembine. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Rev. Gene Wickman will officiate. Burial will be in Dunbar Memorial Cemetery, Dunbar, Wis., in the spring.
