Obituary

Alfred Gummin, 91, of Florence, found eternal peace on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Golden Living Center, Florence. He was born June 14, 1920, in the Township of Brazeau, near Pound, Wis., son of the late Adolph and Martha (Cudnofsky) Gumin. Al was born on the family farm near Pound and grew up there. He married Ethel Meyers on June 21, 1943, in Marinette, Wis. After their marriage, Al and Ethel resided on the family farm for a few years before moving to Hermansville, Mich. After eight years of farming and operating a fueling station in Powers, they relocated to Northlake, Ill., where Al owned and operated a plumbing and swimming pool installation company. They lived in Illinois for over twelve years before moving to Florence in 1966. They have resided there together ever since. Al was a master plumber, heating and electrical contractor in the Florence area and thoroughly enjoyed his work, interacting with people and helping others. He will be missed by his family, many customers, and friends. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; four sons, Ronnie Gummin of Florence, Darryl (April) Gummin of Florence, Mark (Gail) Gummin of St. Helena, Calif., David (Sandra) Gummin of Elm Grove, Wis.; one daughter, Janice Roberts of Spread Eagle, Wis.; one brother, Arthur (Dorothy) Gummin of Pound, Wis.; one sister, Elsie Kelly of Elmwood Park, Ill.; brother-in-law Richard (Nora) Meyers of Florence; sister-in-law Mary (Homer) Dunkes of Norway, Mich.; ten grandchildren, Nancy, Mathew (Kerri), Angela, Michael, Scott, Deon, Cory, Elijah, Christian, and Marisa; and six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kenzi, Mason, Alexandra, Lauren, and Michael; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his dear mother and father, by his beloved eldest son, Arlyn (Carmen), by brothers Edward, Russell, and Harris and sisters Ida, Tracy, Berneice, and Loretta. He was also preceded in eternal rest by father-in-law, Herman Meyers and mother-in-law, Gertrude Nau Meyers. Visitation will be Sunday, July 24, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev.
