Obituary

Albert A. Grell, age 89, of Florence, passed away Monday, February 12, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born June 23, 1917, in Florence, son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Gammey) Grell. He married Patricia Richards on June 30, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence. Albert was a lifelong resident of Florence and graduated from Florence High School in 1935. Albert served in the US Army during World War II stationed in the Aleutian Islands and Philippines. Upon being honorably discharged from the service, Albert received numerous medals for valor, including the bronze star with two oak leaf clusters. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence, the church building committee, the American Legion Post No. 211 and VFW Post No. 3635 of Florence, as well as the Knights of Columbus. Albert worked as a logger for Goodman Lumber Company and Louisiana Pacific, retiring in 1982. He was an avid hunter and trout fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his wife and grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Robert (LeAnna) Grell, Sun City West, Ariz., Richard (Marie) Grell, Florence, Michael (Lori) Grell, Snohomish, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Lois Grell, Florence; 11 grandchildren, Lori (Troy) Hall, Terri Grell, Robert (Mary) Grell, Anthony (Maureen) Grell, Steve (Stephanie) Grell, Travis (Jennifer) Grell, Tim (Shannon) Grell, Michael Grell, Frank (Amy) Renzoni, Mark (Tina) Renzoni, Torin Miller; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Albert was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Grell. Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2007, 9:00 am to 10:30 am, at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Prayers will be recited 10:30 am at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
