Agnes I. Kohon, 93, of Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born September 22, 1918, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late John and Johanna (Ojaniemi) Wierikko. She attended Swan Lake School and Crystal Falls Public School. In her early years, she worked at the Iron County Medicare.
On July 20, 1942, she married John Kohon in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1992. Agnes enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, walking, knitting, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by seven children, Jean (Leif) Hansen, Mt. Prospect, Ill., Judy (Russ) Gemmell, Racine, Wis., John Kohon, East Lansing, Mich., Jerry Kohon, Fowler, Mich., June (Gary "Kyle") Erickson, Crystal Falls, Jim Kohon, Crystal Falls, Mary (Jon) Schiavo, Crystal Falls; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Rick) Pomykala, Laura (Eric) Shotton, Brian (Becky) Gemmell, Todd Gemmell, Michael Kohon, Emily Kohon, Anika Kohon, Adam Schiavo, Kevin Schiavo; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Pomykala, Tommy, Justin, and Holly Shotton, Jackson, Parker, and Carson Gemmell; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by five brothers, Toivo "John", Jacob "Jack", Armas, Urho, and Reino Wierikko; three sisters, Vieno Yoki, Hilda Walkky, and Lena Stevenson.
The visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday at the church. Rev. Nathan Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
