Obituary

Agnes Holkup, 93, of Crystal Falls died on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born on August 10, 1917, in Crystal Falls. Agnes was the ninth of ten children born to Otto and Sanna (Rysberg) Eckola. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School and lived her entire life in the Crystal Falls area. Agnes married Walter Holkup in August of 1936. Together they had four children: Robert, Kathleen, James, and Edward. The family spent their years together on the Holkup family property at Fortune Lake. Walter passed away in November of 1954, leaving Agnes to raise the children. Agnes moved to Pleasant Valley Apartments in 1992. She enjoyed doing handwork, watching the news on TV, doing 'search-a-word' puzzles, and was an avid reader. Agnes especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Robert (Sharon) Holkup, Auburndale, Fla., and Crystal Falls, Kathleen Holkup and James Holkup, both of Crystal Falls, Edward Holkup, LaCrosse, Wis.; four grandchildren, Sandra (Robert) Lloyd, Amy (Randy Bucek) Marinoff, Bryan (Kathleen) Holkup, Sherry Holkup; five great-grandchildren, Tom and Amber Lloyd, Hannah Marinoff, Megan Bucek, Norah Holkup; one god-daughter Patt (Bernie) Kosiba; nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by a grandson, John Holkup; and all of her siblings, Nick, Gus, Matt, Sam, and George Eckola, Jennie Kassha, Amelia Clemo, Sennia Wales, and Sylvia Faucett. Private family visitation will be held along with funeral services at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
