Alpha: Adelore E. Spokes, age 94, of Alpha, Mich, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, Mich. He was born September 11, 1911, in Florence, Wis., son of the late John and Emma (Trudell) Spokes. He was raised in Alpha, and graduated from Porter High School in Alpha. On December 23, 1942, he was assigned to the 872nd Airborne Engineer Aviation Battalion. Adelore served in the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. He participated in New Guinea and the South Pacific Campaign. Wounded in the Philippines in 1945, he was discharged shortly afterward. Adelore was on the Mastodon Township School Board in 1946 and served as secretary for 12 years. He was employed at North Range Mining Company. In 1998, he was honored as Parade Marshall in the VJ Day Parade. Adelore was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Alpha VFW Post 7569, American Legion, East Side Veterans Council, Color Guard and was on the board of the Credit Union for 46 years. Survivors include one brother; John (Joy) Spokes of Arizona, two sisters; Joyce Motzkus of Alaska and Vivian Voelker of Armstrong Lake and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Adelore was preceded by two brothers Gerard Spokes and Joseph Pat Spokes, and one sister Constance Clemitus. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2006, from 10:00 – 11:00a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will offer a Veterans Memorial Service 10:45 a.m. at the church. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. at the church. Fr. Dino Silvestrini will be officiating.
