Obituary for William C. Higgins

Kingsford- William C. Higgins, 87, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the comfort of his own home with his wife Terese, Paul, Brenda, Sadie, and Eddie by his side.

He was born in Iron Mountain, Mich., on March 25, 1936, to the late William and Luella (Stedfeldt) Higgins. Bill graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1955. He was not only an Eagle Scout but an excellent downhill and slalom skier, remarking that he was the only one on the high school ski team. Bill also skied for the Iron Mountain Jaycees. His favorite mountain to ski on was Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where, years later, he returned to ski with his son. His job during high school was at the Dickinson Hotel. Just after graduation, he went to work at Ford Airport to work for North Central Airlines. Bill was responsible for all aspects of the operation, from selling tickets to getting the plane off the ground. He worked for several airline mergers from North Central, Republic, Northwest to Delta. After 38 years, Bill retired out of Green Bay.

On August 5, 1995, Bill married Terese Langsford in their backyard with family, by the late Jack Payant presiding. They loved to travel. Every year, they would start out in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, just outside of Disney World. A drive around parts of the state was a must each year. Every year, a cruise was scheduled. Two of the favorites were a flight to Sydney, Australia, and then a two-week cruise to Auckland, New Zealand, and a flight to Vienna, Austria, and taking a cruise on the Danube and Rhine Rivers to Amsterdam. They attended many of the grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events, and graduations.

Bill had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, serving on many committees, and was also a lifetime member of the Elk’s. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends every morning. Bill looked forward to deer hunting with his friends at the hunting camp. He had his own camp built in Covington, where he and Terese enjoyed staying and riding around in the woods on four-wheelers looking for deer and moose. Later, he and Terese enjoyed going to Bush Lake to stay at her cottage. They enjoyed being outdoors and traveling around.

Survivors include his loving wife, Terese Langsford Higgins; children, James (Pam) Higgins of Rothschild, Wisc., and Kelly (James) Snitgen of Green Bay, Wisc.; grandchildren, Jacob Snitgen, Autumn Snitgen, Evan Higgins, and Eric (Jacque) Van Laarhoven; great-grandchildren, Everett, Addalyn, Bennett, and Linsley; step-children, Sean (Jennifer) Hudson of Quinnesec, Mich., and Paul (Brenda)Hudson of Ashwaubenon, Wisc.; step-grandchildren, Jaeden Hudson, Jaron (Kayla) Hudson, Janak Hudson, Jaecer Hudson, Jaivas Hudson, Jaricho Hudson, Skyler Hudson, and Kayla (Steve) Annen; and by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
