Obituary for William D. "Bill" Butterfield

Niagara-William D. Butterfield, age 83, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Friday, February 22, 2019.

He was born December 13, 1935, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Clarence and Claire (Kallenbach) Butterfield. Bill attended Iron Mountain High School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1962. He married Nancy Sims on December 29, 1959, in Kankakee, Illinois. They resided in Illinois for a short period of time before moving to Niagara in 1962. Bill worked for Lodal Corporation, Kingsford, Mich. for many years. He owned and operated Niagara Automotive for 45 years. Bill worked with the Auxiliary Sherriff’s Department, Marinette County for 10 years, served as a Special Deputy for 5 years, and finished his career with the Niagara Police Department, serving 5 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends, which he visited with daily at the Red Brick Inn. Bill’s sense of humor and great attitude will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife Nancy Butterfield; seven sons, David Butterfield, Gwinn, Mich., Brian (Robin) Butterfield, Ohio, Stephen (Chris) Butterfield, Oklahoma, Randy (Beverly) Butterfield, Green Bay, Wis., David (DeAnna) Butterfield, Aurora, Wis., Billy Butterfield, Niagara, Wis., and Howard (Veronica) Butterfield, Niagara, Wis.; three daughters, Cindy (Keith) Annear, Quinnesec, Mich., Lori Walters, Neenah, Wis., and Christine Cazzola, Norway, Mich.; one sister, Juanita Sparks, Niagara, Wis.; 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and many many good friends.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by one son, Steven Butterfield; two brothers, Glenn and Ernest Butterfield; two granddaughters, Nicole “Nikki” Butterfield and Shelly Conery; and one great-grandson, Aieden Annear.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, 2019, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Funeral services will be Thursday, 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Ryan Flunker and Nancy LaFleur will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery in the Spring. The American Legion, Cretton-Tutas Post #136 of Niagara and the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post #50 of Iron Mountain, will accord military honors at graveside.

A memorial will be established in Bill’s memory.
