Obituary for Virginia C. "Ginny" Rahoi (Wonders)

Iron Mountain- Virginia C. “Ginny” Rahoi, 96, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born June 17, 1925, in Quinnesec, Mich., daughter of the late Harry and Clara (LeMieux) Wonders. Ginny grew up in Quinnesec and graduated Quinnesec High School. In 1946 she was united in marriage to Joseph “Bunzie” Rahoi Sr. He preceded her in death in 1994.

Ginny didn’t simply live her life; she celebrated it with a passion for her family and the time spent with them. She spent countless hours each year canning vegetables from the garden, knitting Afghans for friends and relatives, and enjoyed playing cards with anyone bold enough to challenge her, yet still found time to introduce her children to the great authors and poets, often reciting their works from memory. Aside from her superior cooking skills, which she shared for a time at a local restaurant (after having converted soup-making into an art form), Ginny’s community involvement included donations of food to those in need and many years of service on the election board. She asked little of this world, other than that 30-minute window in time when the Jeopardy show aired, another area where she excelled. Ginny has gone home now, but her departure leaves a hole in the heart of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Survivors include her children, Joseph Jr. (Cynthia) Rahoi, Stager Lake, Mich., Robert Rahoi, Iron Mountain, Mich., Harry (Mary) Rahoi, Republic, Mich., Linda Haleen, Sagola, Mich., Frank (Donna) Rahoi, Iron Mountain, Mich., and Paul (Karen) Rahoi, Hennepin, Ill.; grandchildren, Stacey (Marc) Calcaterra, Lynn Rahoi, Leon Rahoi, Leanna Rahoi, David Rahoi, Michael (Meghan) Rahoi, Adam (Janae) Haleen, Mark (Courtney) Haleen, Sara (Shane) Demetrick, and Katie (Ben) D’Cruz, Logan Watts, and Hamilton Watts; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Michael Calcaterra, Ada, Jaylynn, and Alex Haleen, Taylor, Sawyer, and Calder Demetrick, Virginia “Mini Ginny” Solano Rahoi, and Aiden D’Cruz, Maci Watts, and Remington Watts; sister, Marion Wollum.

In addition to her parents and husband Joseph, Ginny was preceded in death by one son, Brian Rahoi, and one grandson, Christopher; brothers Joseph Wonders, Robert Wonders, and Harry Wonders; sisters, Helen Chandler, Louise McKinnon, and Lucille Doney.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich.
