Obituary for Stanley Anthony "Stan" Jankowski

Niagara – Stanley “Stan” A. Jankowski, 91, of Niagara, Wis., formerly of Goodman, Wis. passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Rennes Nursing Home, Peshtigo, Wis. with his family by his side.

He was born April 19, 1928, to the late Anthony and Catherine (Miszczak) Jankowski. Stanley grew up and lived on the farm in Goodman until he met Alice Fatla from Armstrong Creek, Wis. They married and settled in Armstrong Creek where Stan was a cheesemaker at the cheese plant, while working he was offered and accepted a manager’s job at Vacationland Dairy in Crystal Falls, Mich. and moved his new family to Crystal Falls. He then worked for Cloverland Contractors, where he received his electrical license and was a mechanical estimator and field representative. He then went to work at Montgomery Wards in Iron Mountain, Mich. as a Service Manager. Stan lived his younger years in Crystal Falls, and enjoyed being a part of the Crystalaires Senior Drum and Bugle Corps., fishing and hunting; taking the family on mini vacations with Bill Ahola and his family; spending hours with Rudy Enstrom helping him get the first Enstrom helicopter built and take its first lift off, and spent many days with the Enstrom’s’ on their houseboat on Way Dam. One of Stan’s proudest accomplishments was designing and building his family home in Crystal Falls.

After his family was raised, he along with Alice moved to the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area. It was at that time he met up with his “new partner in crime” John Lutz and they enjoyed many fishing trips, hunting and going to camp. After Montgomery Wards closed in Iron Mountain they moved to Rhinelander, Wis. and he continued working for Montgomery Wards until he owned and operated his own service business until he retired.

After Alice passed away Stan remained in Rhinelander and enjoyed his home in the country and private lake. He had strong Polish roots and enjoyed playing the concertina and was a member of the concertina club. Stan played with his club members at many outings and enjoyed concertina “jams” at his home. Over the years he travelled to 19 states with family and friends and moved to Niagara, Wis., in 2015.

Stan is survived by one son James (Debra) Jankowski, Escanaba, Mich.; one daughter Sandra Neargarth, Green Bay, Wis.; one brother Stephen (Nancy) Jankowski, Ravenna, Ohio; three granddaughters Brianne Jankowski, Tori (Mario) Jankowski Wenig and Samantha (Toby) Neargarth Nichols; one great-grandson Bentley Joe Nichols.

In addition to his parents and wife Alice, Stan was preceded in death by one brother John; three sisters Antionette Schmidt, Agnes Chitko, and Irene Niezabitowski; one son-in-law Joe Neargarth; and two grandsons Levi and Stanley Neargarth.

The family wishes to heartfully thank William Rajnicek for helping with their father.

Graveside services will be held at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich. in the spring.
