Life Story for Ruth Jean Weber (Borga)

Iron Mountain-Ruth Jean (Borga) Weber, age 94, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.

She was born April 17, 1925, in Ralph, Mich., daughter of the late William and Nan (Sparks) Borga. The family moved to Channing, Mich., in 1929 where Ruth graduated from Channing High School in 1943. She continued her education at the St. Lukes Cadet Nurse Corp. in Marquette, Mich., graduating in 1947 as a Registered Nurse.

Ruth was married to Walter Weber on November 22, 1947 and moved from Channing, Mich. to Iron Mountain. They were married for 56 years until Walter preceded her in death in 2003. Ruth worked as an RN at the Iron Mountain General Hospital for three years, DCH for eleven years and the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain for sixteen years. She served as president of the Dickinson County Nurses Association and director of the Michigan State Nurses Association (MSNA). She was on the board of directors for four years and served four years as president of the Dickinson Iron County Nurses Association. Ruth volunteered for twenty-one years for the American Cancer Society and was instrumental in establishing the Dickinson County Cancer Unit & Closet, where she served 16 years as president. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, Mich.

Ruth was a very loving, kind and generous person who did whatever she could to help others in the spirit of true compassion. We are all deeply grateful to have had her in our lives.

Ruth is survived by her children, Tim (Leanne) Weber, Douglas, Wyoming, and Mary Beth (Eric Engbretson) Weber, Iron Mountain, Mich.; three grandchildren, Paul Weber, New Orleans, Louisiana, Brian Weber, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Aimee Wharry, Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmit (Maxine) Borga and Victor (Mary) Borga; two step-brothers, Vernon and Chester Sparks; and two sisters, Betty (Neil) McDonald and Candice Sparks.

Family and friends will have a time of sharing Ruth’s life on Saturday, June 29, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Burial will take place in Channing Cemetery.
