Crystal Falls-Ruth L. McCumber, age 74, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, Mich.
She was born on October 7, 1943, in Ontonagon, Mich., daughter of the late Victor and Jessie (Crum) Doers. Ruth moved to the Crystal Falls area as a young girl and lived in the area ever since. She graduated from Forest Park Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1961. Ruth married Curtis McCumber on December 15, 1973, at Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls, making their home in Mansfield Township. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2017.
Ruth worked as a certified nurses aid for the Golden Living Center in Florence, Wis., retiring in 2008.
She enjoyed attending worship at Zion Lutheran Church, Metropolitan, Mich. with her daughter and son-in-law. Ruth’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a multi-talented lady who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, all other forms of needle work, crossword and word search puzzles, cooking, canning and spending time in her flower garden.
Survivors include her five daughters, Karen (Daniel) Helms, Channing, Mich., Terri Brown, Rhinelander, Wis., Niccole Spade, Marinette, Wis., Kristi (Adam Smart) Bryner, Niagara, Wis. and Tasha McCumber, Menasha, Wis.; eleven grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan) Boehmke, Crystal Falls, Mich., Jordan Helms, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Christian (Holly) Helms, Sagola, Mich., Cherokee (Deb) Helms-Gleason, Negaunee, Mich., Brandi Kohlsmith, Union, Kentucky, Lisa Hooper, Rhinelander, Wis., Jeffrey (Kayla) Hooper, Oconto, Wis., Skyler Spade, Briana Bryner, Kaylee Brown and Kyle Brown; twelve great-grandchildren, Noah Boehmke, Grayson Boehmke, Emberli Helms, Cheyenne Chapman, Walker Chapman, Coltin Chapman, Seere Helms-Gleason, Amelia Helms-Gleason, Hunter Kohlsmith, Mason Kohlsmith, Jordan Legere and Dominick Wozniczka; Ruth is also survived by her best friend and sister, Arlene (Fred) McCraw, Port Washington, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Diane Doers, Belgium, Wis. and Sue Doers, Theresa, Wis.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband Curtis, Ruth was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Victor (Pat) Doers, Allan Doers and Vernon (Virginia) Doers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Gertrude McCumber; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys (Onnie) Salo, Stanley McCumber, Eugene (Jacquelyn) McCumber, and Alice McCumber; and by one son-in-law, Shane Spade.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Mansfield Pioneer Church, Mansfield Township, Mich. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Lee and Pastor Lori Liverance will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the Mansfield Township Hall. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Mich.
