Obituary for Robert G. "Buzzy" Olivanti
Iron Mountain- Robert “Buzzy” G. Olivanti, 83, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Monday, December 27, 2021, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing Facility, Kingsford, Mich.
He was born March 29, 1938, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late August and Julia (Morelli) Olivanti. He was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1956. Following graduation, he attended Northern Michigan University, receiving a Master of Education. Buzzy retired from Dickinson Area Catholic School, where he taught for 31 years. He married Gina Gembolis on June 23, 1973, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain.
Buzzy worked at Bimbo’s Wine Press as a bartender and greeter for 39 years. He was an active member of the Dickinson Area Paisano Club, where he served as president for ten years, and the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge. He will be missed by all of his friends at Kevin Barglind’s “B&B Service Station,” Iron Mountain, where he spent numerous hours visiting and socializing. Buzzy was a devoted member and lector at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Gina Olivanti, Iron Mountain; two sons, Steve (Wendy) Olivanti, El Paso, Texas, and Brian (Lawren) Olivanti, Appleton, Wis.; two brothers, William “Bacon” Olivanti, Downers Grove, Ill., and Richard “Dick” (Mickey) Olivanti, Portage, Mich.; five grandchildren, Anthony, Alex, D’Angelo, Ellie, and Vince; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Buzzy was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Olivanti; two sisters-in-law, Joan Olivanti and Jackie Olivanti.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
