Obituary for Robert J. Langsford
Robert Jewell Langsford, 87, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023, in Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born November 9, 1935, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son to the late Robert and Theresa (Lamprecht) Langsford. He grew up living on the Langsford farm. He later worked for Summit Dairy, where he brought ice cream to their Norway location. It was in the Norway location that he met the love of his life, Carole Bollone. On January 26, 1957, they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norway, Mich. After Robert was married, he started working at the Niagara papermill and continued to work there until he retired.
He enjoyed playing various sports, softball, bocce ball, bowling, and even coached minor league baseball for his sons. He had a love for music, he played the accordion, electric guitar, and organ. Robert, along with his brother, and father, were known as The Langsford Trio. The Langsford Trio played various venues, along with specialties like the “Ski Train” that would bring skiers to our local area and Dickinson Hotel.
Robert enjoyed gardening; he would make his own wine from the grapes he grew. He remodeled everything in his homes, and even built his camp, The Langsford 5-mile Inn. His family was what mattered most to him.
Survivors include his three sons, Rob (Cheryl Pietrantonio) Langsford, Steven (Gina) Langsford, Gary (Lisa) Langsford; daughter, Karen (Bruce) Powers; sister, Terese (Bill) Higgins; six grandchildren, Christopher (Ginny) Powers, Kate Langsford, Carlo Langsford (Katie), Samantha Langsford (John), Maria Langsford (Niko), and Alexa (Ronnie) Coles; six great-grandchildren, Malakai Powers, Kalina Powers, Aubrey Langsford, Gia Langsford, Brody Langsford, and Maverick Langsford.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Langsford; his brother Roy (Fran) Langsford; and by a niece, Kristin Langsford.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. Rev. Fr. Mike Chenier will officiate.
