Obituary for Robert Kowalski

Niagara - Robert Kowalski, 88, of Niagara, Wisc., passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born on January 19, 1934, in Niagara, Wisc., to the late Frances and Grace (Gibbs) Kowalski. He married Barbara A. Petersen on July 3, 1955, in Niagara, Wis. Robert and Barbara were married for sixty-five years before she preceded him in death on March 3, 2021.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, Robert returned to Niagara. During his forty-year career with the Village of Niagara, Robert was responsible for the establishment of the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Niagara and worked with the state of Wisconsin in setting the rules and regulations. He was the highest-rated Waste Water Management operator in the state of Wisconsin. In his early career, Robert worked as a part-time police officer for Niagara and owned a TV/Radio Repair business in Niagara, while also working for the Village of Niagara.

After retirement, he enjoyed many summers on his pontoon boat fishing with his wife, Barbara on Badwater Lake in Spread Eagle, Wisc. Robert enjoyed his Pabst Blue Ribbon and was known to be quite a conversationalist.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Audrey) Kowalski, Florida, Steven (Felicia) Kowalski, Ohio, and John (Angela) Kowalski, Quinnesec, Mich.; two daughters, Buffy (Patrick) Kelly, Niagara, Wis., and Kris (Steve) McGrath, Sherwood, Wis.; sisters, Joyce Anderle and Virginia Reagan; brother-in-law, Vern Jeschke; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife Barbara, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frances Kowalski; sisters, Elizabeth Phillips and Karen Jeschke; and grandson, Erik Kowalski.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at Jacobs-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wisc. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home with Deacon Don Christy officiating. Burial to follow at Niagara Cemetery.
