Obituary for Paul D "Pete" Hooser

Kingsford- Paul “Pete” D. Hooser, 87, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Friday, December 2, 2022, at Bellin Hospital, Green Bay, Wis.

He was born December 28, 1934, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late Paul Demas and Maude (Montgomery) Hooser. Pete grew up in California and was a graduate of Southgate High School, class of 1952. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years as a Master Sergeant. Pete was very patriotic, and his highlight was participating in the Honor Flight. He considered it a special day, and he felt everyone should have an opportunity to experience it. Pete married Elaine Dennis on January 1, 1975, in Lubbock, Texas. They resided in Visalia, California, for 20 years and later in Iron River and Norway, Michigan, before moving to Kingsford in 2013. Elaine preceded him in death on April 15, 2015.

Pete was a member of the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post 50, Iron Mountain, a life member of the DAV, and a member of the American Military Society. He was a past member of the United Brotherhood of Jointers and Carpenters of America. Pete was self-employed in the construction field.

His hobbies included playing and watching golf and bowling; on November 3, 2022, he bowled a 300 game and was an avid Cowboy, Raider, and Packer fan. Pete was an advocate for always being physically active. He attended Bianco’s Gym three to four times a week, did daily physical work outside, and would bowl 15 to 20 games a week.

Survivors include his significant other, Mary Carlson, Iron Mountain, Michigan; three sons, Scot Hooser, Mark Dickens of California and his son, Richard, and Kevin Dickens of Florida and his daughter, Penny; one daughter, Robyn (Russell) Bloom, Warrensburg, Missouri; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; Pete considered Mary’s family, Kathy (Mike Gribble) Pavlat of Iron Mountain, and LeRoy (Jamie) Kline of Kansas, and their four children, Crystal (Mike) VanHese, Michael (Darlene) Ihander, Jackson Kline, and Mandy Kline; and great-grandchildren, Mylee and Sawyer VanHese, as his own family. Pete had one special brother-in-law, Robert Ketchum, of Iron River.

In addition to his parents and wife, Elaine, Pete was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hooser; five sisters, Dorothy Brown, Laura Lawry, Barbara Hooser, Marjorie Sutton, and Virginia Hooser; and one grandson, Terry Kline.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. The American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post 50 will provide Military Honors at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will follow the Military Honors at 6:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Danielson officiating. Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River, Mich.

Memorials can be made to the U.P Honor Flight or Veterans Memorial Park Organization in Pete’s memory.
